I realise I miss out in going from Retina -> non Retina. I've looked at replacing the battery (I get 2.5-3 hours now) and instead bit the bullet and ordered a 2017 Macbook Air. I have a fully upgraded Macbook Pro Retina w/ 2.9Ghz i7 w/ 256G SSD. I'm going through exactly the same thought process.
